The Castle

The Castle was situated at 220 Putney Bridge Road. This pub has been demolished and rebuilt several times. The original building (see photo above) was demolished in the 1930s and replaced by the building in the photo below. This pub was destroyed by bomb damage in WWII and replaced in 1959 by the final incarnation which was demolished in 2003 and replaced by the Boathouse pub the following year. A temporary hut was used when it was rendered unusable during WWII in order to retain the licence.Source: Darkstar
